Review:
I'm a middle-aged black man now, and sometimes I wonder if young people it.I was born in Richmond, VA, and I'm one (1) generation removed from segregation. That is why I was floor performance of these young actors. Chadwick Boseman & Nicole Behar did a great job portraying Robinsons.I grace and courage could do. Boseman has an uncanny resemblance to Jackie, and his performance was so visceral, that showed me that I could do it.I would not have had the courage to stand up to racism, do not fight back. I had to bite my time patiently until people decided it was time to see me as more than sub-human. I certainly would not have taken the risk of playing a game while people threatened my wife and child.When Jackie finally got angry enough to break a wall bat that was the only thing I could relate to - so to realize that he had to go back there because it was more than him - I was appalled by his courage.This is more than a movie about baseball. Shades like to see people in second class seats still proves to support Robinson at Sunday service full dress was reaching for me.This film is not just about Jackie.My mother is from New York and was 7 Y's old when Jackie joined the Dodgers. She remembers this clearly.Its obvious why (as I did) would take the kids to see this film, because it shows what happened and how far we have come. To me, it shows what others did for me that I was able to make movie myself.This has some cheesy parts to it - like most films of this ilk, clean some things and do bind a beautiful bow on some issues glossed over in retelling ..... that does not mean it's a darned good film.Im pretty cynical these days. Its not often that I see a movie with a lump in my throat all the time. I owe to the young actors who portrayed people of my generation grandparents with style, class and urgency.I owns this film when they become available, and this time can not come soon enough.
